The Amy Winehouse Experience

The Amy Winehouse Experience

With Halloween only five short days away, and our Amy Winehouse tattoos being such a big seller, we figured we would share some fun information with you! This tattoo kit is used by a professional Amy Winehouse impersonator who is on tour! She uses our Amy tattoos a few times a month to achieve the legendary singers look. We wanted to pick her brain so we asked a few questions. Check out the interview below to learn a little bit about why she plays Amy and how much she loves our tattoos!

When did you first start playing music and why did you fall in love with it?

I have been singing since I was very young, Amy and I both have a love for jazz vocalists, the phrasing and styling is so organic and honest.  That's what I love about her music.  It's so much fun playing with a band like this, a big group of talented people, it makes my job so fun and paying tribute to an artist as incredible as Amy is a huge honor.

What kind of music do you listen to on a regular basis?

I love singers, so I like soul music, gospel, blues.  I like emotional music.  I also love jazz and hip hop, rhythmic music that makes you move.  Sade, Etta James, Anthony Hamilton, Marisa Monte, Citizen Cope.  I appreciate artists who write from their gut.

Why Amy Winehouse? What do you like about her best?

The reason I chose this project is the musicality.  There are not a lot of artists who used a full band like Amy, with a horn section, backgrounds and the arrangements really allow the musicians to shine.  It makes it so much more enjoyable for the audience to watch.  Plus the fact that Amy is no longer with us, it gives her fans and chance to enjoy her music in a live setting.  She had amazing style, she was a truly unique artist.

Walk me through a day as an Amy Winehouse performer.

We typically start early with prep, getting to the venue, making sure the lighting and sound is fine-tuned and ready to go.  I put on the tattoos early in the day, it takes about 30 minutes to get them all on, positioned correctly.  I always get so many comments on how amazing they look, most the time people think they are real!  Makeup and hair takes about 2-3 hours.  We put in a hair-piece and extensions.  Amy had a lot of hair, mine is not very thick, so I have to add a lot of pieces.

If you could see any musician, dead or alive, besides Amy, who would you see?

I would have absolutely loved to have seen Etta James live.  She was such an amazing vocalist, probably my favorite voice of all-time.
